Tonight in Maquoketa, stop out for your chance to catch up with your local law enforcement as the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department will host a National Night Out. This free event takes place from 5 to 7:30pm at Little Bear Park. The annual event, is designed to promote positive relationships between first responders and the community, will feature food, children’s activities, and water games with the Maquoketa Fire Department. Any one hoping to attend is encouraged to bring lawn chairs for personal seating. Some of the activities and games include a Dyno Jump, fire trucks and water games, a petting zoo, bean bag toss, hula hoop contest, water balloon toss, face painting, crafts, the MMEU boom truck, police vehicles, an ambulance and loads more. Prizes that are to be given away include games, movies, and bicycles.

National Night Out are important events where communities across the country connect with law enforcement; with a heavy focus on getting neighborhoods actively involved in preventing crime in their community. Events like these provide a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under controlled and positive circumstances.

In addition to this evenings plans in Maquoketa, according to their social media posts; the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office K9 program was selected as a recipient of the Maquoketa Rotary Club Reverse Raffle along with Maquoketa Fire/Rescue Department.

"Every year the Maquoketa Rotary Club hosts a fundraising event to help support their club and charities of their choice. We were honored to be a recipient. Sheriff Kilburg spoke on behalf of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Chief Matt Tranel spoke on behalf of Maquoketa Fire/Rescue. It was a fun night with delicious food that was catered by Kalmes’ Restaurant & Catering. Thank you Rotary!"
