Travelers to and from Dubuque are hitting some new turbulence with this week's announcement that American Airlines is departing the Dubuque Regional Airport with their last scheduled flight for September 7, 2022.

While the airline serviced just two flights daily to Chicago's O'Hare International, it made a difference and provided a convenient option for business and leisure travelers in the Tri-States.

The airlines are reportedly having difficulty finding pilots to fly the planes, and it's wreaking havoc on air travel from coast to coast but is significantly impacting smaller regional airports like Dubuque's.

While Dubuque has experienced up and down ridership levels and seen service come and go, this announcement means travelers must scramble for alternative options.

With 17 nonstop flights from Cedar Rapids, the Eastern Iowa Airport may be the best way to reach your destination, with airlines serving Chicago, Minneapolis, Nashville, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Orlando, and Denver, to name a few.
