The Seattle Seahawks Might Be the First NFL Team to Join Colin Kaepernick’s Protest

Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest is gaining momentum in the league. Two members of the Seattle Seahawks told the Seattle Times that the team might do some kind of protest during the playing of the national anthem at their season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday (Sept. 11).

"Anything we want to do, it’s not going to be individual," said Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner. "It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals."

"Whatever we decide to do will be a big surprise," he added.

Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin is also considering doing a protest at Sunday's game as well. He has some apprehension since his grandfather is a military veteran. For Baldwin, he doesn't want to do anything he feels will disrespect his grandfather's military service.

“I have (considered it),” he said. “I want to make sure I get all of my ducks in a row before I do so."

Since Colin Kaepernick's protest, sales of his jersey at NFLShop.com have skyrocketed. The San Francisco quarterback went on his Instagram account to announce that proceeds from the sales of his jerseys are going to community organizations.

Kaepernick is still kneeling during the national anthem and he doesn’t planned on changing his protest anytime soon. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
