Hillary Scott Helps Stand Up to Cancer Raise $42 Million
The star-studded event was a fundraiser for Stand Up to Cancer and the evening raised $42 million for the non-profit, which aims to bring the end of cancer through funding for groundbreaking cancer research. Performances throughout the evening included Scott, Tony Bennett, Sheryl Crow and Jamie Foxx.
"This honor means the world to me, but the real heroes are the scientists and doctors who are working day and night to find new ways to help patients fighting cancer," Couric said. "My fellow co-founders and I are in awe of what you do, and it is our incredible privilege to share the major strides that you've made — and the hope you've already given so many patients — by collaborating through Stand Up to Cancer."
Couric shared the stage later in the night with Scott, Foxx, Reese Witherspoon and Emmy Rossum as the group traded verse on the James Brown staple "I Feel Good." While Foxx started off the performance, he later handed the microphone to Scott, who eventually passed it off to Rossum for a spirited performance.
"Whether it's the next great performance or the next scientific breakthrough, our imagination and ambition make these milestones possible," said event chair Jim Toth. "Tonight, we honor and celebrate those who've come together to imagine a new world — a world in which every cancer patient becomes a survivor."
