Gwen Stefani Jokes Blake Shelton ‘Forgot’ Valentine’s Day, Cupid Broods
The roses Blake Shelton sent to girlfriend Gwen Stefani on Valentine's Day certainly came with at least one prominent thorn — the couple couldn't spend February 14 together.
In a new interview with Today, Stefani says she and Shelton were separated by many miles on the year's most romantic day, and joked that he completely forgot to check in.
"We weren't together. I was here and he was in Oklahoma. He forgot!" she said. "No, just kidding. I got some beautiful flowers and lots of texts. It was fun. I mean, you know, I'm in New York and he's in Oklahoma."
And with The Voice Season 12 quickly approaching, Stefani says she's recently reflected on her evolving relationship with Shelton as a co-star. Sometimes, she wants to confide in him, but other times, she remembers he's big competition.
"I was like, 'Wait, is this going to be awkward? How am I going to act?'" Stefani said. "It's just natural. Sometimes it is a little bit [weird]. We're driving home and I'm like, 'Do you think I should put them together?' And then I'm like, 'Wait a minute! I'm not going to talk to you about this! I don't know if you are the enemy. This is confusing.' We actually do help each other, and I've learned a lot about country music — just in the last year — through him."
Shelton and Stefani have been dating for more than a year. Shelton publicly declared his love for her as recently as a January acceptance speech at the People's Choice Awards, during which he said "Thank the hottest date here tonight Gwen Stefani who’s sittin’ out there."
