A sure sign of summer is when Flora Pool in Dubuque opens for the season.  The Dubuque pool is set to officially open this Friday, June 2nd. Due to staffing shortages, Sutton Pool in Dubuque is not expected to open this year.

In an effort to make it easier for those folks that would normally visit Sutton Pool, to use Flora Pool,  the city of Dubuque is offering a Free shuttle service.  Here's the planned schedule.  This schedule is subject to change

June 2

Flora Pool will open for the 2022 season and The Jule will operate a free Flora Shuttle service beginning on Friday, June 3.  The pool will operate under its preseason schedule June 3-10:

Friday, June 3: 

  • Adult Swim: 7 - 11 a.m.
  • Preschool Playgroup: 7 - 11 a.m.
  • Open Swim: 12 - 4:30 p.m.

Saturday & Sunday, June 4 – 5: 

  • Open Swim: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Open Swim: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Monday - Friday, June 6 – 10: 

  • Adult Swim: 7 - 11 a.m.
  • Preschool Playgroup: 7 - 11 a.m.
  • Open Swim: 12 - 4:30 p.m.

Regular hours will begin on Saturday, June 11.

Monday – Friday:

  • Adult Swim: 7 - 8:30 a.m.
  • Adult Swim: 12 - 1 p.m.
  • Preschool Playgroup: 12 - 1 p.m.
  • Open Swim: 1 - 4:30 p.m.

Saturday & Sunday: 

  • Open Swim: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Open Swim: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Rentals: 5 - 7 p.m.

Daily admission is $2 for youth (age 4-17), $4 for adults (age 18-61), and $2 for seniors (age 62 an older). Children age 3 and under are free.  Twenty-visit punch cards for all ages can be purchased for $40 at the pool during regular operating hours.  Punch cards may be purchased with Leisure Services Department scholarship funds and are half-priced for income-qualified residents.  Adult swim and water walking passes are available for $50 for Dubuque residents and $60 for non-residents.  For more information on pool fees, schedule, lessons, and more visit www.cityofdubuque.org/florapool or call 563-589-4246.

In order to increase the accessibility of the pool, The Jule will offer a free Flora Shuttle route seven days per week beginning Friday, June 3.  To accommodate all pool activities, the shuttle will operate continuously daily from approximately 8:15 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. with stops at Flora Pool or Irving Elementary (across Pennsylvania Ave. from Flora Park) approximately twice every hour.

  • The shuttle will travel downtown on Rhomberg Ave. to Sutton Pool (where it will stop) and will also make stops at bus stops on Jackson St., Windsor Ave., Elm St., West Locust St., Main St., and Bluff St.
  • The shuttle will also provide a new transportation option for mid-town and the west end residents including stops at bus stops on Pennsylvania Ave., John F. Kennedy Rd., Sunset Park Circle, Asbury Rd., and Radford Rd.
  • The route will start at the Delhi Transfer at 8:15 a.m. with the first drop off at Flora Pool at 9:03 a.m.  The last pick up at the Flora Pool bus stop for west end residents is 5:48 p.m., and for mid-town, east, and north end residents the last pick up is 6:10 p.m. at the Irving School/Flora bus stop.

Passengers can access this route from any designated bus stop on either loop or from one of The Jule’s three transfer locations: the Intermodal at 950 Elm Street, the Midtown Transfer at Allison Henderson Park on North Grandview Avenue, and the JFK Transfer at 3355 Kennedy Circle.  Residents can also utilize The Jule’s current bus routes to access Flora Pool Monday through Saturday, but regular fares will apply.
