Wisconsin’s Best Steakhouse Has Been Family Owned Since 1946
"You're only a stranger once."
That's the motto of a steakhouse in Wisconsin that was just named the best in the state by the website Cheapism. Last week, I took a look at Archie's Waeside Café, which Cheapism called the best steakhouse in the state of Iowa. The same site's pick for top quality steaks in Wisconsin has been family-owned and operated for nearly 80 years.
That establishment is known as The Five O'Clock Steakhouse (don't confuse it with Jimmy Buffett's song nor bar-chain). The Five O'Clock Steakhouse has been the go-to for fine dining for folks in Milwaukee and the surrounding areas since they opened in 1946.
Billed as a supper club, this is a steakhouse predicated on timeless and time-honored tradition. Legend has it the restaurant got its name from an alarm clock, located behind the restaurant, which blared at 5pm each day to signal free drinks for thirsty patrons.
Fast forward to 2024, and The Five O'Clock Steakhouse has been a consistent presence on "best of" lists and winner of numerous awards. Like Archie's Waeside Café in Le Mars, IA, this steakhouse was named "One of America's Best Steakhouses" by Food Network's eminently popular Rachael Ray.
The Five O'Clock Steakhouse serves up 8 and 16oz filet mignon, New York strip sirloin, porterhouse, and more on their delectable menu. Cheapism makes sure to rave about their Baked French Onion Soup, which could prove to be a great primer for you in your multi-course meal:
The Five O'Clock Steakhouse has been a family-owned and independently operated Milwaukee supper club since 1946, consistently winning best steakhouse awards and making "best of" lists. Start with the popular Baked French Onion Soup made with melted gruyere, then try the Five O'Clock Cut porterhouse or bacon-wrapped filets with blue cheese topping and Parmesan sauce. - per Cheapism's website
Beyond that, the beloved establishment also offers Thai buffalo shrimp, fried calamari, crab-stuffed mushroom caps, and a variety of vegetables as appetizers!
Find out more about The Five O'Clock Steakhouse on their website. Next week, I'll finish tagging all the steakhouse bases in the Tri-States by looking at the best one in Illinois!
