Upcoming Dubuque Expo Offers Guidance to New and Expecting Moms
The Birth Collective of Dubuque is presenting a new expo for current, new, or expecting moms in the Tri-States!
The event is called "The Making of a Mama," and it's set to take place at The Salvation Army in Dubuque on Saturday, August 6th from 9am to noon. The three-hour expo boasts the opportunity to learn all about "bumps, babies, and boobs from local birth professionals," per a flyer for the event.
Kelly Rolwes of Birthways Doula and Lacy Knipper of Wonderfully Made Birth Services, two companies involves with "The Making of a Mama," stopped by the studio to chat about the schedule of events and what is in store for mothers-to-be.
Lacy Knipper made sure to note the wealth of resources that will be available for women seeking assistance with their pregnancy:
They can expect a lot of resources. [There are] People who are going to help make 'mom-ing' easier. We've got everybody from doulas to lactation consultants, mental health counselors, and chiropractors as well.
Things begin at 9am when doors open. From there, a "Community Latch On" for breast and bottle-fed babies will take place at 10am, with a practitioner panel and a variety of vendors available from 10:15am until the conclusion of the event at noon.
"The Making of a Mama" is even incorporating technology in an engaging way. People are able to text questions in advance of the expo to assure they'll be answered, Kelly Rolwes explains:
You may also text your questions too if you're thinking of a question [....] you may not necessarily want to ask or don't want to forget to ask at the event. You may text your questions prior to 563-223-8323, and we will have someone there to [answer] all the questions that are texted.
Moreover, this is an excellent opportunity that permits mothers and moms-to-be to find a network of women through the shared experience of pregnancy and child-birth. There will be an opportunity for mingling on top of all the scheduled panels.
"The Making of a Mama" expo will be held at The Salvation Army in Dubuque (1099 Iowa Street in Dubuque, with a parking ramp located at 10th and Iowa). For more information, visit the Birth Collective of Dubuque's website or the event's Facebook page.
