The Village of Elizabeth Throws a Big Party at 101st Community Fair
One notable aspect of summers in the Tri-States is the strong sense of community pride and the celebrations that transpire. The list of events is extensive, from weekend festivals and street parties to county and community fairs.
The Village of Elizabeth, Illinois, is hosting its 101st Community Fair on July 22, 23, and 24th.
I had to let that sink in for a moment when I first read one hundred and first community fair. It's a solid community to pull anything together for more than a century, much less a fair.
Located in the center of the rolling hill country of northwestern Illinois and Jo Daviess County, The Village of Elizabeth is easily reached along U.S. Highway 20 between Freeport and Galena.
The weekend fair will provide a fun venue with great vendors, vintage tractors, arts, crafts, food, beer, music, and more!
Friday, July 22nd, kicks off with a steer weigh-in, and things get moooving from there with fun competitions, including crafts and gardening. The Kid Zone with inflatables and rides opens at 5 pm, and the Fantasy
Truck Pullers rev things up at 7 pm, followed by the Midnight Discman DJ at 9 pm.
Saturday morning Elizabeth's small-town pride will be all full display with a parade starting at 11 am, followed by a Free Noon Lunch for the first 500 folks in attendance. It's prepared by the Jo Daviess County Beef Association and sponsored by the Citizens State Bank.
Save room for dessert because an ice cream eating contest is scheduled for 4 pm! The crowning of the Miss Elizabeth Fair Queen happens at 6 pm.
From 8:30 to midnight, the Zac Matthews Band will be cranking out the tunes.
Sunday has a Bean Bag Tournament, Bingo Games and BBQ, and the Small Town Family Throwdown featuring live-action TV game shows.
The community has hosted this festival for over a century, so you can bet the historic village knows how to throw a quality party. So make the trek down Highway 20 to experience the Elizabeth Community Fair.
