The Hawkeyes and Iowa; there isn’t one without the other
I grew up watching the Hayden Fry Hawkeyes. Tim Dwight was easily my favorite player. I watched as Alford and the men’s basketball team made a run in the NCAA tournament with Luke Recker and Reggie Evans. I have enjoyed and been emotionally moved by “the wave” at Iowa Football Games towards the children hospital above Kinnick. I have enjoyed the likes of Gable, and the Brands brothers, and their tenacity and work ethic on the wrestling mat! My mother worked as a pharmaceutical tech and my sister has worked as a nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics. Truly the U of I has been a big part of my life. In fact, to this day, I continue to follow closely and work with some prominent Hawkeyes including or very own Gary Dolphin.
Today is One Day for Iowa. It’s their 24-hour online fundraising event, which raises money in support of multiple university initiatives. You can show your support today of Iowa Athletics. Consider it an investment in our local student-athletes, and their daily pursuit of academic and competitive excellence.
As of now, it looks like you are all doing your part to contribute. So far, as of 11:30am, almost 700,000 dollars has been raised and counting. And you can even choose where your contributions go and what areas they are allocated for. Areas of support include; Alumni & Iowa Clubs, Arts and Music, Colleges & Programs, Hawkeye Athletics, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Health Care, Students and Campus Wide Support, and Writing at Iowa.
Last year, more than 3,000 Hawkeyes gave back to support the University of Iowa. You can make an even bigger impact when you take advantage of limited-time matching and unlocking challenges that could lift your gift by double or more. Areas that receive the most donations will share a slice of 40,000 dollars in extra funding.
This event is a great way to show your support for the Hawkeyes or any programs and services the University of Iowa provides to its students and to you the public. Go Hawks!
