Meet the 31 Dashing Men Who’ll Try to Win Rachel’s Heart on ‘The Bachelorette’
These single men want to fall in love. Or become TV stars. Whichever.
The men who will compete in the upcoming season of The Bachelorette were revealed Wednesday (May 17) during a Facebook Live broadcast with host Chris Harrison.
Rachel Lindsay will have a Baskin-Robbins-ful of men from which to choose, as 31 fellas vie to win her heart in the hopes of popping the question and then posing with her for the cover of various tabloids and maybe root for her when she agrees to compete on Dancing with the Stars next season.
Lindsay, 31, is a lawyer from Texas who shoulders the burden of being the first African-American person -- man or woman -- to appear as the main star in the show's history. Lindsay, who enjoyed a long run on The Bachelor during Nick Viall's season, certainly embraces her role.
"To be the first African-American woman is a beautiful thing," she told the Hollywood Reporter. "I’m honored and humbled to be the one chosen. Because that’s how I feel: like I was chosen to be in this role."
The cast of the upcoming Bachelorette represents the most non-white cast in the series history: a total of 11 African-American men will compete, easily more than any other season. During the broadcast, Harrison reminded viewers that the contestants are "a part of the most successful, most diverse and, of course, most dramatic cast we have ever had on the show."
Only audience can judge the accuracy of that claim, since everything that's teased on The Bachelor franchise is the "most dramatic."
