We're less than three weeks from the 4th of July... and the annual "Budweiser Kickoff to Summer!"

Everything seems off this year. If events are even happening, there is an entire subtext composed with words like "social distancing" and "sanitize."

I would say over the last few months, most of us have been educated as to what we need to do to stay healthy. Now that we know, most of us are eager to venture out and rejoin society for social events!

This years event will be hosted by the Dubuque County Fairgrounds on Thursday, July 2nd from 6pm to midnight. It's presented by Verlo Mattress and MidwestOne Bank.

I spoke with Kevin Kotz, General Manager for the Dubuque County Fairgrounds last week about how the event will be kept safe for guests coming out to party.

He said there is plenty of parking and room to space out. There will be food vendors and the entertainment will be found back in the Beer Garden. You can party with tunes from Jabberbox, Menace and Ratchet Jaw. There will be marks on the ground to help folks social distance from each other.

Of course, there will be plenty of cold beverages available, too!

The fairgrounds staff will also be sanitizing frequently used spots to keep things clean for everyone.

"Kickoff to Summer" is a FREE, ALL AGES party, so bring the kids! There will be a fireworks display at dusk presented by Verlo Mattress that will be fired off from the stock car track. There's plenty of seating or you can watch clearly from the west parking lot.

This event benefits Camp Albrecht Acres, the Dubuque Sertoma Club, the FFA and the Storybook Children's Zoo.

A party this size needs help, so thanks to Verlo Mattress, MidwestOne Bank, Express Employment Professionals, The Quality Inn and Simply Parker's!
