Dubuque’s New Café and Market is an Exquisite Dining Spot
On our drives home from work, Catherine and I continued to monitor the construction taking place on a building located at the fork of Grandview Avenue and Bryant Street in Dubuque. The building was once home to the Milk House, but has since been renovated into a sterling, beautiful gathering place that's an extension of an existing business.
Located at 620 South Grandview Avenue, Roux & Lucia is a brand new market and café to complement their Bryant Street bakery next door. The historic building is striking from the outside, and meticulously detailed on the inside. Intensive planning and work clearly went into the construction of this building.

The Telegraph Herald notes that part of the blueprint for the newest iteration of Roux & Lucia revolved around replicating fixtures and stripping paint from the building's exterior — on which neighborhood children carved their names over the course of decades.
The new building is split into two parts. One is a more traditional dining room setting, complete with a coffee bar, a display case filled with fresh deli meats and cheeses, and a cooler of wine and other beverages that can be enjoyed in-house or purchased to consume elsewhere. Attached to the building is a spacious, gorgeous sunroom with ample seating as well as natural light.
The sunroom has a lovely view of the adjacent Grandview Avenue, and the area is always busy with vehicle and foot-traffic, making it an ideal location for the co-owners: father and daughter Tim Conlon and Roux Conlon-Loar.
For breakfast/brunch, Catherine and I enjoyed the restaurant's chicken and waffles, but the lunch and dinner offerings are plentiful as well. Various soups and salads are available, as well as a classic hamburger, for the former. Steak frites, salmon piccata, and Mediterranean sea bass are some of the offerings served during dinnertime.
Furthermore, Roux & Lucia have predicated themselves on dishes and beverages that are not typical offerings you see everywhere. They prioritize "obscure, small-produced, and low-intervention wine-making styles," per the Telegraph Herald, and their wine/beer list includes bottles from France, Italy, and even Slovenia.
There's really nothing else like Roux & Lucia in Dubuque. The hours for the new café/market are listed below:
- Monday - Thursday: 11am-8pm
- Friday: 8am - 9pm
- Saturday: 9am - 9pm
- Sunday: 9am - 9pm
