“Chief Dalsing’s long and distinguished career is a testament to his commitment to making Dubuque a safe and secure community, illustrated by a crime clearance rate that, at over 90 percent, is double the national average, and a 32 percent reduction in Part 1 Crimes from 2015 to 2020,” said City Manager Mike Van Milligen.  “Mark has focused on supporting a team of police officers that act with integrity and compassion, with a focus on equity and community engagement. I am grateful that Mark selected public service as a career and congratulate him on a well-deserved retirement.”

Dalsing informed the City in 2020 of his plans to retire in 2021 when he became eligible.  In late July 2021, the City issued a request for proposals from qualified firms/providers to perform executive search services for the position of chief of police. A firm will be selected soon and the goal is to select a new chief of police by the end of the calendar year.

Dalsing’s retirement will become effective Sept. 25, 2021.  City Manager Mike Van Milligen has appointed Assistant Chief of Police Jeremy Jensen to serve as interim chief of police until a search is conducted and a new chief is hired.  Jensen has served with the department since March 1994 and was promoted to assistant chief in December of 2017. He has served at each rank and in each division within the police department and has played an integral role of the department's successes as a member of its management team since 2008.
