Ford Explorer’s Recalled in Illinois for Part That May ‘Fly Off’

Millions of Ford SUVs are going to be recalled because of a safety hazard that was determined by U.S. regulators.

Ford Pickup Recently Recalled Because They Could "Roll Away"

Earlier this month, Ford announced that letters would be sent to over 100,000 Ford F-150 pickup truck owners because of the possibility their truck could "roll away" even if the vehicle is in PARK.

The F-150 recall covered model years "2021 through 2023 that are equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package," according to 6ABC.

Some Ford Explorer's Being Recalled for Safety Hazard

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of the Ford Explorer today (Wednesday 1/24) because the "clips holding the trim that covers the roof supports close to the windshield can come loose."

If the clips come loose on this cover "the trim piece can fly off and increase the risk of a crash," according to the report from 6ABC.

The issue was first raised by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration in 2018, based on owner complaints. Investigation over the years traced the problem to a growing population of Explorers. -Consumer Reports

The recall is for Ford Explorers from model year 2011 through 2019, and according to Consumer Reports, owners will be notified by mail about the recall in March.

Ford reported being notified of 568 complaints that have been filed to NHTSA and 14,337 warranty reports that were related to the faulty trim piece.

Ford said they aren't aware of any crashes or injuries that have been related to the trim piece flying off an Explorer, according to Consumer Reports.
