Did You Know Guy Fieri’s Triple D Has Only Featured One Illinois Pizza Joint?
Guy Fieri's top-rated show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives has featured numerous restaurants in Illinois.
Nine different cities in Illinois have had at least one restaurant given the triple D spotlight.
Some of those restaurants have closed, and some of them have remained open and are thriving.
A Surprising Discovery for Pizza Fans
Then again, only one of those restaurants was an actual pizza joint.
As an avid pizza nerd, coming across this information was quite a shock to me.
A Personal Journey in Pizza
I love pizza so much that I had a small video series on YouTube for several years of me eating pizza at local Rockford area pizza places.
I visited over 100 different pizza joints in the Rockford area alone. In all his travels, Guy Fieri has only featured one pizza place in the entire state.
At least it's a good one. It's better than good; it's legendary, and I'm talking about The Original Vito and Nick's Pizzeria.
The Original Vito & Nick's Pizzeria: A Chicago Legend
Vito & Nick's website says, "We are a pizza restaurant specializing in thin-crust pizza and fine Italian dining for almost 90 years. If you believe in pizza, Chicago, Ditka, Jordan, or Chelios, this is on the list."
What People Are Saying
It's not all hype. Darcy G. on Yelp said she thought Vito & Nick's would be "overrated" but was "pleasantly surprised that it wasn't."
Melissa K. had a slightly less good experience, saying they were "disappointed that our pizzas were completely soft aside from the very edges." However, they did follow up by saying, "Perhaps our pies were just a bad batch."
For the most part, Vito & Nick's has overwhelmingly positive reviews, scoring a 3.9 out of 5 with over 1200 reviews on Yelp.
Old-School Vibe Perfect for Triple D
Most visitors' biggest complaint is that the restaurant is cash only and does not have an ATM. Word to the wise: make sure you bring your money.
Vito & Nick's has an old-school ambiance, so it was a good fit for Triple D.
