Galena Shines Bright as the Best Holiday Tourist Town
Holiday cheer was overflowing during Galena's annual luminaria, and lively windows walk this past Saturday.
As evidenced by the hundreds of people on Galena's historic Main Street, the event ranks high as the quintessential Christmas holiday experience.
The over five-thousand luminarias lining the town's sidewalks and staircases had Galena glowing and overflowing with families, couples, and visitors from far and wide enjoying the holiday spirit and festivities.
Galena has demonstrated a penchant for putting on great parties throughout the year. Saturday night's annual event once again delivered with live music on nearly every block, colorful displays, and a whimsical atmosphere even the Grinch would have a tough time denying the Christmas and holiday fun.
Indeed, the live window displays lining Main St. offered a touch of theater and performance with musicians, choirs, and kids dressed for the occasion while singing holiday favorites.
Meanwhile, Christmas carolers hit the right notes in Grant Park with the classics from Jingle Bells and Silent Night to Deck the Halls and Joy to the World.
While it's hard to say how many were in attendance throughout the evening, there's no question that downtown parking was at a premium, as were reservations at the area restaurants, with happy holiday revelers overflowing onto historic Main Street.
Although the thousands of luminarias are put away, and the windows are back to the usual displays, Galena remains a festive and fun holiday getaway, whether for an afternoon, evening, or weekend.
The dozens of shops, eateries, and drinking establishments provide a fun and memorable holiday experience, even if it's just to window shop and stroll around town to soak up the holiday charm. So it's no surprise to see people from far and near descending upon Galena for a dose of holiday cheer.
