Opening Weekend at Dubuque’s Farmers Market: 180 Years of Tradition
There’s nothing like the energy of opening day at the Dubuque Farmers’ Market. Even better, this Saturday, May 3rd, you’re invited to be part of that excitement as our local community celebrates 180 years of this amazing tradition on Iowa Street!
From 7 AM to noon, downtown Dubuque’s Upper Main District comes to life with the sights, sounds, and flavors that make this market a true treasure of the Tri-States. Stretching across three city blocks, the market features over 125 local vendors that offer everything from fresh produce and meats to handmade crafts, wines, and loads more.

For my family, the Dubuque Farmers’ Market is more than just a place to shop. It’s an experience we look forward to every year. It's essentially your first chance to beat back the cabin fever of winter with your local neighbors. We love wandering the stalls, discovering the massive selection of produce like tomatoes, sweet corn, mushrooms, and other fresh produce grown in the Tri-States. It's always fun to see the new puppies attending their first Dubuque farmers market. And, as always, it’s the perfect spot to stock up on exceptional goodies while supporting local farmers.
The market offers so much more than just food, though. Live music and street performers fill the air with energy and familiar tunes, and the aroma of fresh food from vendors is usually irresistible. One absolute must-try? The amazing donut breakfast sandwich. It’s hands down one of the best treats you’ll find anywhere, and something I make a point to indulge in each chance I get.
The Dubuque Farmers’ Market is the perfect gathering place to celebrate local culture and invest in our neighbors. It’s amazing to think this tradition has been going strong since 1845, and continues to grow in both attendance and vendors, even after 180 years.
So grab your friends and family, bring your appetite, and experience the beating heart of Dubuque. Whether it’s your first visit or the umpteenth time, you’ll leave with fresh produce, a full gut, and some great new local performers to enjoy.
