21-Year-Old Hannover Man Dies in Jo Daviess County Wreck, Names Released
A fatal single-vehicle crash in rural Jo Daviess County claimed the life of a 21-year-old passenger and left the driver with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a media release from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred on Monday, April 13th, 2026, shortly after 4 PM on East Skene Road, just west of South Massbach Road near Elizabeth, Illinois. Shortly after, emergency dispatch received a 911 call regarding the wreckage, and deputies were quickly sent to the scene.
According to the police report, the vehicle involved was a blue Ford Ranger driven by 18-year-old Dayan Havens of Elizabeth, IL. Investigators determined that the truck struck loose gravel on the north side of the roadway, causing it to leave the road and enter a ditch. The driver then overcorrected, sending the vehicle across the roadway and into a ditch on the South side.
The vehicle then traveled up an embankment, became airborne, and landed on its tires before rolling multiple times. During the crash, the front-seat passenger, identified as 21-year-old Jordan Havens of Hanover, was ejected from the vehicle. Jordan Havens was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Dayan Havens was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening and was cited for failure to reduce speed.
Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police crash reconstruction personnel, local fire and ambulance services, AirCare 3, and the Jo Daviess County coroner. The crash remains under investigation, with the driver presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
