From Neglect to Hope in Dubuque: Meet Mouse, Truman, and Devo, Our Pets of the Week
Each week, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is highlighting a "Pet of the Week." The Pet of the Week is available to be adopted via the Humane Society. This week, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is highlighting another amazing four-legged friend:

The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is excited to introduce our Pet(s) of the Week: Mouse, Truman, and Devo! These boys all came to the Humane Society from the same household. Unfortunately, it was a difficult, neglectful situation for these pooches. While they’ve already made incredible progress, each is hoping to find a forever home of his very own.
Mouse is a 7-year-old male weighing 15 pounds. This loving little guy enjoys the simple things in life: kibble and puzzle feeders! He walks well on a leash as long as he’s bundled up in a cozy, warm sweater. Mouse does great with other dogs and cats, and when he’s feeling playful, zoomies are his favorite activity. He’s equal parts cuddly and fun.
Truman is 8 years old and weighs 14 pounds. Sweet as can be, Truman is the definition of a lap dog. He’s curious, attentive, and incredibly snuggly once he feels safe. He can be shy with new people and will need a little time to warm up to his new family, but his gentle personality truly shines. Truman absolutely loves other dogs and would likely do well with cats, too.
Devo is a 6-year-old male weighing 18.8 pounds. He came to the shelter in very rough shape: from his teeth to his skin, he had clearly been through a lot. Thankfully, after receiving the medical care he needed, Devo is steadily recovering. His favorite place now is a comfy couch where he can relax and feel secure. He does great with other dogs and cats. While still very shy, he’s showing slow and steady improvements in trust every day.
These sweet dogs had very little socialization before coming to the shelter. While they’ve come a long way physically, they are still building confidence emotionally. Thanks to dedicated foster homes, they are learning what it means to feel safe and loved.
Ideal adopters will be patient, understanding, gentle, and willing to move at the dogs’ pace. Each of these pups would thrive in a home with calm, kind canine companions to help show them the ropes. If you’re ready to add their love into your life, make sure to schedule a visit today.
And while you’re visiting, be sure to take part in the Dubuque Regional Humane Society’s Be Mine, DRHS Valentine fundraiser, happening all February long. Donations help place hand-drawn valentines on shelter kennels to brighten each animal’s day, with four valentine levels available: candy heart, kiss, teddy bear, and rose. Every Valentine is handmade, proudly displayed, and the donations for purchasing them directly support the animals in need.
