New Autism Therapy Clinic Opens in Dubuque to Meet Growing Community Needs
According to recent reports from the CDC, data suggests that 1 of every 31 children in the U.S. has autism spectrum disorder. In fact, they say that’s probably an undercount. One article said that there's been a nearly 300% increase over the past 20 years. the data shows between a 10% to 20% increase every two years. Additionally, boys are three times more likely to be on the spectrum than girls. It's increasing prevalence has created a need for local communities to be even more proactive.

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental condition that affects communication, behavior, and social interaction. While every child with autism is unique, many experience challenges in expressing themselves or connecting with others in traditional ways. At the same time, they may have some incredible strengths; such as strong memories, creative problem-solving skills, or deep focus on topics that interest them. Early diagnosis and individualized therapy can make a significant difference. Certain services can help children develop communication tools, independence, and confidence as they grow and mature with autism.
In Dubuque that need for care is being met with a grand opening celebration today (11/13/2025) from 4 to 5:30 PM at the newly opened Caravel Autism Health. The ribbon-cutting event takes place at 6600 Boulder Brook Court in Dubuque, and will feature tours, a look inside the sensory-friendly therapy rooms, and a chance to meet the team of specialists who will serve our local families.
According to their website, Caravel Autism Health has been supporting families since 2009 with evaluation, diagnosis, and customized Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. Their approach focuses on early intervention with a goal to help children build communication, social, and learning skills at a young age while also offering guidance and counseling for parents.
The new Dubuque center is designed to feel welcoming and child-focused, with bright, engaging spaces that encourage exploration and growth. For families who’ve faced long drives or long waitlists to access autism therapy, the new clinic is a game changer. It brings essential tools closer to home and provides additional resources for local families.
