Breaking News: In-Car Gunshot Led to Fiery Iowa Cash that Killed Three
More details have emerged on the tragic two-vehicle collision on U.S. 20 near Earlville that left three people dead and one injured. Authorities have revealed new details suggesting a gunshot incident occurred during the time of the crash. The deadly incident happened at around 3:30 AM on October 13th, when a Chevy Impala traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes collided head-on with a Freightliner truck.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the impact ignited both vehicles, leading to an intense fire that made rescue efforts challenging. The driver and two passengers of the Chevy Impala were pronounced dead at the scene, while the Freightliner driver sustained injuries, but to what extent has still not been revealed. No individuals were initially identified in the immediate aftermath, but updates from authorities have since revealed the identities of the deceased and other critical details related to the crash.
The occupants of the Impala have been identified as 50-year-old Tijuan Devell White, 38-year-old Augustine T. Monboe, and 21-year-old Tyrese Devell Johnson. The Iowa State Patrol reports that White, the driver, suffered a gunshot wound prior to the crash. However, investigators have found no evidence indicating that the gunshot originated from outside of the Impala, leading them to believe that the incident occurred within the vehicle itself. Due to extensive fire damage sustained in the collision, the exact cause of White's death remains undetermined, though investigators are working to establish a clearer sequence of events.
Emergency personnel from multiple jurisdictions—including Delaware, Dubuque, and Clayton County Sheriff’s Offices, along with responders from Dyersville, Manchester, and Earlville—arrived swiftly at the scene to manage the fire and assess the casualties. The Iowa State Patrol led the investigation, which remains ongoing as authorities continue to search for answers related to both the cause of the crash and the circumstances surrounding the gunshot incident.
The combination of a wrong-way collision, a gunshot wound discovered in one of the deceased, and the extensive fire damage has posed unique challenges to investigators, as they seek to understand what happened in the moments leading up to the deadly crash.
