Something has been in the works at the beloved Galena shop known as Poopsie's. The colorful beacon of joy and entertainment has expanded to take over the space next door. As a result, Poopsie's has effectively super-sized itself, now occupying the former Illinois Bank & Trust, adjacent to its current location, at 400 South Main Street.

Construction was recently completed and Poopsie's co-owner Alana Turner reached out to discuss what faithful and first-time Poopsie's shoppers can expect with the expansion:

So, we have doubled our size, or as you'll see on our billboard, we are 'super-sized' [....] We now have incorporated Spotsie's into Poopsie's, so we're no longer Spotsie's across the streets, it's all under the Poopsie's umbrella. Our thought was that our customers were having to choose between the two, so this way, you can still shop all the fantastic give-backs and even more. [You] can check out at one register, [and] use your Poopsie's perks at one register. It's just gonna be a lot of amazingness.

Turner and co-owner Traci Lyden opened at Poopsie's at its current location in 2011. The Galena store has been in business since the 1990s, but Turner and Lyden have ushered in a new chapter with this brand new building. In August 2020, the two opened Spotsie's, across the street, at 403 South Main Street, which donates a portion of proceeds to different causes.

Going forward, the two will now be under one roof. Spotsie's give-back plan will be incorporated into Poopsie's model going forward, as the business has an annual tradition of picking a different cause to support and donate to each year.

Turner added that the aspect of the expansion everyone seems to highlight first is how significantly more spacious Poopsie's has become:

Everything who has walked in, who has been to Poopsie's before, is like, 'it's almost like a breathe of fresh air.' We just haven't had that luxury of having space. [In] Downtown Galena, you're stuck in that brick building, and there's not a lot of room for growth unfortunately [....] Customers now have some breathing space, and can really take in all the amazing things around them.

A designated parking area for Poopsie's is located behind the building, between Main Street and Water Street.

Take a listen to my interview with Alana Turner below. Poopsie's is now reopened and located at 402 South Main Street in Galena. You can find Poopsie's on Facebook too.
