An ongoing listeria outbreak that has impacted 18 states, including Illinois, has resulted in six people dying and 25 individuals being hospitalized. The listeria outbreak, which was first announced in June, has been linked to a plethora of precooked pasta dishes.

Food supplier Nate's Fine Foods has a plethora of ready-to-eat past meals that are impacted by this recall, per an update from the Food and Drug Administration. The listeria outbreak is also being investigated by the CDC.

As of this writing, cases have been reported in 18 states, with 27 people fallen ill and 25 being hospitalized, per NBC News. One pregnancy-associated illness resulted in a fetal loss as well:

What is Listeria?:

Listeria is an infection that can seriously affect older people, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.

Per NBC News, listeria infection is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the United States.
