Caitlin Clark and Team USA Take Home World Cup Gold!

This version of Team USA didn't have a cakewalk at this year's FIBA Basketball World Championships. For the first time, the United States got pushed by teams like Spain and France and looked beatable at times. But in the end, the US still had more talent than any other team competing on the world stage.

Team USA Wins Fifth Straight World Cup

Breanna Stewart scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Team USA to a comeback gold medal-winning victory over France, 97-79, according to ESPN. Stewart, the team captain, was also named MVP of the tournament in Germany. Team USA trailed at halftime and was down double digits against a French team that nearly beat the United States in the 2024 Olympics.

In a tight game heading towards halftime, Caitlin Clark hit a huge three-point shot to give Team USA momentum heading into the second half!

Clark would finish with 12 points off the bench for the United States, with 3 assists and three 3-point shots in the game. Clark led Team USA in assists for the tournament, according to ESPN.

What's Next for Team USA?

The next time many of these women will play together on Team USA will be the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. ESPN reports that many of the players on this World Cup team could return in two years in L.A. Hopefully, that means more GOLD for the United States!
