Cyclone Fans Can Soon Buy Beer at Iowa State Sporting Events
It's always a party at an Iowa State home game. But this fall, you'll be able to order a beer inside Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.
Beers Sales Coming to Iowa State University Sporting Events
KCCI reports that the Iowa State athletic department announced a new policy on alcohol at sporting events. Beginning in the 2026-2027 season, Cyclone fans will be able to purchase alcohol at sporting events. The reason for the move? KCCI reports that ISU Athletic Director Jamie Pollard cited "financial pressures from rapidly increasing costs" in college athletics as part of the reason. ISU officials say the move was years in the making.
What Kind of Alcohol Will Be Sold?
According to KCCI, beer, wine, and pre-packaged ready-to-drink cocktails will be made available to Iowa State fans. Sales are expected to generate around $1 million in revenue for the school. Iowa State had been one of the few schools in the region that didn't offer alcohol at sporting events. KCCI reports that the University of Iowa started selling alcohol in 2021.
New Rules Come With Alcohol Sales
There are new rules that will also be put in place starting at Jack Trice Stadium this fall. KCCI reports that Cyclone fans will no longer be able to leave the stadium and re-enter. Patrons will also be limited to two drinks per purchase.
The new rules go into effect for football season and will then expand to Hilton Coliseum for basketball and wrestling season, according to KCCI.
