Judy from Big Apple Bagels at 1675 JFK Road stops in once a month to tell us about her charity of the month.

This year instead of her traditional "Stocktoberfest" event, she's teaming up with Resources Unite!, Sedona Staffing Services and Cafe Plus at the 1st Congregational Church to help out with a much-needed personal hygiene drive.

Every Thursday, Cafe Plus does a free weekly meal at the 1st Congregational Church at 10th and Locust.

One of the other ways they help the community is by giving out personal hygiene bags to those in need. Sure, we all need a meal... but what about those other items that can't be bought with government assistance?

On Wednesday, October 28th,  you can take part in the "Personal Hygiene Drive" from 10am to 6pm.

Stop by the 1st Congregational UCC at 255 West 10th Street in Dubuque. They will feature a drive up donation drop off, so you won't have to get out of your car or expose yourself during the pandemic. You can also help with a monetary donation. (Cash can go even farther, as they have the ability to make discounted bulk purchases of needed items.)

You can also stop by Big Apple Bagels at 1675 JFK Road to donate items and cash. (While the event is going on all day that Wednesday, Judy says you can really stop by anytime this month to drop things off.)

Items that could really be used include:

  • Laundry Detergent / pods
  • Deodorant (Men's/Women's)
  • Hand and Body Soaps
  • Body Lotions
  • Hand Sanitizers
  • Toilet Paper
  • Toothbrush/Toothpastes
  • 2-1 Shampoo/Conditioners
  • Diapers (especially sizes 4,5,6)

For more information and other ways to help, visit the 1st Congregational Church WEBSITE or call Judy at Big Apple Bagels at 563-557-3170.

Thanks for helping those less fortunate!
