Watch Chris Rock’s 2016 Oscars Monologue
With the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, all eyes where on 2016 Oscars host Chris Rock as he returned to add a little diversity to this year’s Academy Awards, and he did not disappoint.
Rock wasted no time getting into the controversy welcoming everyone to the 88th Academy Awards, “Otherwise known as the White People’s Choice Awards.” Rock noted that the Oscars don’t like black people so much, “If they nominated hosts, I wouldn’t even get this job. Y’all be watching Neil Patrick Harris right now.”
Rock didn’t shy away from the topic throughout his 10-minute monologue repeatedly addressing both racism and sexism in Hollywood (and throwing in a few digs at Kevin Hart as well). There was nothing immediately as controversial as his Jude Law bit from his last Oscars hosting job, which Sean penn would later express his anger with later in that same broadcast.
On the way off the stage, Rock summed up his entire monologue best by saying, “You want diversity, you got diversity!” before introducing both Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt to present the evening’s first award.
