If you're in the right state/community, St. Patrick's Day is a holiday that can provide a lot of sneaky fun and entertainment. This year, it falls on a weekend, which makes it the perfect time to party. In lieu of the holiday, one website looked at the states that celebrate St. Patrick's Day the best.

That website is Chummy Tees and, with the help of Google Keyword Planner, came up with a list of the states that celebrate St. Patrick's Day better than the rest. Between Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin, only one of our Tri-States cracked the top 10. However, that state came in at #2, proving to be one of the all-time best states in which to celebrate the Irish holiday.

The Methodology Behind the Study:

Chummy Tees used Google Keyword Planner and Eventbrite to examine a variety of events states are holding for St. Patrick's Day. The minimum ticket price median and maximum ticket price were calculated along with the average number of event followers to determine how popular the event looked to be.

In addition, Chummy Tees used 72 St. Patrick's Day-related terms that they put into Google Keyword Planner to determine the overall popularity of the abundance of events in various states.

Illinois is the Second Best State to Be for St. Patrick's Day:

Coming in at #2 behind Massachusetts is Illinois, with a score of 73.89 out of 100, per Chummy Tees. Take a look at the stats that prove how well Illinois celebrates St. Patrick's Day. Illinois has:

  • The fourth highest number of St. Patrick's Day events (86)
  • Ranked second highest in terms of Google search popularity (237 searches per 100,000 residents)
  • A $15 average ticket price (for the cheapest events)
  • A #50 average ticket price (for the most expensive events)
  • An average of 16 people following each event

Chicago Always Does St. Paddy's Day Right:

Every year, the City of Chicago dyes the Chicago River green for St. Patrick's Day. Having seen the green river itself in person, I contend it's one of the most beautiful things the city does every single year. It's also fun to see the news stations do live look-ins when city workers dye the river ahead of March 17th.
