A beloved racetrack in Wisconsin, less than an hour outside of Madison, has announced they will not be continuing their weekly races following the conclusion of this season. The announcement was made on their Facebook page, and has been met with shock and sadness from drivers and spectators alike.

Beaver Dam Raceway has been a staple in the community since it opened in 1993. For many summers, the raceway was a place where folks could come watch competitions on a weekly basis. Beaver Dam Raceway also holds the annual World of Outlaws sprint car races, and was the site of the U.S. Dirt Legends Nationals in 2013.

The raceway posted this statement on their Facebook post, which is already flooded with more than a thousand comments:

Although an incredibly difficult decision, at the conclusion of the 2024 racing season, Beaver Dam Raceway will cease the weekly racing program. We cannot express enough, our heartfelt thank you to every single fan, driver, crew member and employee, who have contributed to making Beaver Dam Raceway the place it is today. We will complete the 2024 weekly season as scheduled, in full [....]

Stay tuned for the 2024 special events schedule. - per a press release shared to Beaver Dam Raceway's Facebook page

WMTV-15 caught up with individuals affiliated with Beaver Dam Raceway to gauge their reactions on the end of the track's weekly racing era. Local racer Matt Rechek commented that the hardest part of this change is that his children are so young that they haven't made enough core memories watching their dad race.

I think my kids will miss it dearly because all they want to do is go watch daddy race every night [....] so that will be tough - Matt Rechek, per WMTV-15

The raceway's press release thanked everyone from the owners to management, grounds crew and concession workers, who worked hard to make the site a reliable place for entertainment. The decision to cancel weekly races was described as one of many "strategic decisions," undoubtedly alluding to business and presumably finances.

Once again, Beaver Dam Raceway will continue the 2024 racing season, with the next race scheduled for Tuesday, August 27th. For more details and further updates, visit the track's website.
