Artisan Pizza of Galena Gets Ready to Roll
Recent surveys asked 1,000 Americans how much they like Pizza. The results won't likely surprise many people, with 98 percent saying they want Pizza.
That's all to say, the new Galena shop, Artisan Pizza, may likely find a receptive audience for their authentic, handcrafted pies.
The kitchen and shop are works in progress in the Artists Annex building at 412 Spring St. / Highway 20 in Galena.
The open kitchen concept has the pizza chefs cooking, slicing, dicing, kneading, rolling, and baking before your eyes. Indoor seating is currently limited, but at the same time, the pizza is superb, and the operation is truly getting off the ground. Therefore, I use the word "popup" pizza to indicate that one should consider this when ordering.
I dropped by Friday evening to check things out. I discovered a fun yet fledgling pizza business under the direction of Galena resident and local food & coffee purveyor Ryan Dies and his partner Sarah.
Dies owns and operates Devour Cafe in Dubuque with Sarah, and they know how to craft quality food. Such as it is with the Pizza with locally sourced high-quality ingredients that are unique & memorable yet tasty. This is primarily due to the precision and attention given to each pizza.
Eggplant Parmesan is a menu standout with homemade signature bell pepper, onion, red tomato sauce, roasted eggplant, spinach, and a Mozzarella & Parmesan cheese blend. It's delicious and filling!
I recently opted for the Indian Butter Chicken and found it quite a delightful change from the usual. The curry spice flavor of an Indian-style chicken served with limes and cilantro is as addictive as advertised.
There's also a Fig Aioli, a more standard Classic Margherita, and a Chicago Sausage King.
Again, it's important to stress that while Artisan Pizza will likely be a tremendous success, they're just getting launched with limited hours and labor.
That said, for $20, you will get a delicious pizza made to order with good intentions and flavorful combinations featuring great ingredients.

Suppose Galena can support Arisan Pizza during its early start-up stage. In that case, the town will hopefully have another fantastic and fun food option for many more years
