Des Moines Baker Returns to Compete on Popular Netflix Show

If you haven't watched Is it Cake? on Netflix, it might become one of your favorite comfort shows if you choose to press play on it.

The show revolves around a series of ultra-talented bakers, who take turns trying to fool a rotating panel of celebrity judges. The bakers create cakes to look like inanimate objects. The judges get 20 seconds to observe each cake as it's displayed next to a couple decoy objects. If they correctly guess which one is the baker's cake, the baker is eliminated. If they guess incorrectly, the baker advances for a chance at $10,000.

Is it Cake? has been a hit since it premiered back in 2022, and the first season was made locally relevant thanks to the presence of a local Iowa man. That man is Andrew Fuller, who sports colorful outfits, lime green pompadour hair, and thick-rimmed glasses. This man couldn't hide in a crowded subway. He is his own individual, and he returned to the show for a holiday special over the long Thanksgiving break.

Is it Cake?: Holiday premiered on Netflix on Thanksgiving Day. Fuller returned to compete alongside two other judges in an "all-star" setup. Since his appearance on the Netflix show, Fuller has become a notable name in the capitol. He owns Sugar Freakshow, a cake studio on the south side of Des Moines.

Per KCCI, he noted that he can't walk down the street without someone shouting "That's the cake guy!" That has to feel pretty great. Any creative person wants to be known and recognized for their contributions in a society filled with talented, and Fuller certainly has achieved that.

Fuller even won the first season of Is It Cake? after creating cakes that resembled everything from a stack of red Solo cups to a conch shell. The cake that won him the season was one that looked like an old suitcase (suitcake?) overflowing with clothes with details such as worn leather and travel stickers.
