Iowa’s Warm Winter Just Ruined a Fan-Favorite Festival
A beloved tradition in the Cedar Valley is unfortunately cancelled for the 2025 season.
Normally, here in Iowa we hear news about events being postponed or just scrapped entirely during the winter months. Nine times out of ten, this is due to cold weather or just an offensive amount of snow.
Iowa schools for sure have bared the brunt of this.
However, you might have noticed in the past year that many of our favorite seasonal traditions are cut not because of it being too cold, but it hasn't been cold enough!

Cedar Falls Ice Harvest Festival Canned for 2025
On Tuesday, January 28th officials from the Ice House Museum in Cedar Falls broke the unfortunate news to the community via social media. The annual Ice Harvest Festival is cancelled due to the expected warmer temperatures.
This annual free event brings history to life and honors the ice-harvesting industry in Cedar Falls with demonstrations by Amish families, photo opportunities, and even ice fishing.
This event was slated for Saturday, February 1st at Big Woods Lake, North Sure in Cedar Falls. Two sessions were scheduled at 10:00 AM to noon and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
"Big Woods Lake has open water, and with the warm snap we are having/expecting, it is unlikely that there will be any ice this weekend," officials said in their Facebook statement.
Warm weather, means little to no ice for these ice harvesters to perform their demonstrations.
This event will not be rescheduled for 2025.
