According to Facebook post from the Platteville Police Department, they are currently seeking the public's assistance after human remains were discovered in a heavily wooded area of the city earlier this week. The department was contacted on Monday, (September 2, 2024) by two individuals who believed they had located human remains.

Officers promptly responded to the call and confirmed the discovery of a deceased individual. The area was immediately secured to ensure the integrity of the scene and to facilitate a thorough investigation. To assist with the investigation, the Platteville Police Department requested support from the Wisconsin Department of Forensic Sciences, Crime Scene Response Unit (CSRU). Members of the CSRU arrived the following morning and are actively involved in processing the scene and recovering the remains, as well as developing theories around the case.

As of now, the identity of the deceased individual remains unknown, and the circumstances surrounding their death are under investigation. Authorities are working diligently to determine both the identity of the individual and the events leading up to their death. At this time, no further details have been released.
