Teenagers Threaten Kidnapping & Violence on Children Playing at Asbury Park

In a concerning incident reported in the Dubuque and Asbury area on Dubuque in Pursuit, a group of teenagers allegedly made threats to harm and kidnap young children at a local park. The incident, which took place earlier this week, has alarmed community members, prompting parents and authorities to take immediate action. Below is a video associated with the event:

According to a report shared by a parent on social media, five young children, including the parent's own child, were playing at a park when four older individuals approached them and allegedly made threats to kidnap them. The terrified children quickly returned home to inform their parents of the situation.

The parent, whose husband is a police officer, returned to the park to confront the group. When the officer calmly inquired about the threats, one of the individuals reportedly responded, “because I can!” He then removed his shoes and threatened to attack the off-duty officer.

The parent promptly called 911, and Asbury police arrived shortly after to apprehend all four suspects. The individuals, who reportedly reside on Queen Street, now face trespassing charges. The parents of the harassed children chose not to press additional charges. They did however stress the importance of keeping these individuals away from public spaces where children gather to play.

Thankfully, all the children involved are safe after immediately leaving the situation to find a trustworthy adult. As always, the community has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities when/if they occur.
