Now through Saturday, December 31st, all customers will be allowed to set out one extra 35-gallon container, up to 40 pounds in weight, or bag without the usually required green sticker. Trash must be set out to the curb or alley line by 6am on the scheduled collection day.

Residents are encouraged to properly dispose of materials through compost and recycling when possible. The City of Dubuque already offers unlimited curbside recycling. Residents can search for the proper disposal method of many common materials at www.cityofdubuque.org/rethinkwaste.

Remember, there is no change to the City’s curbside collection of trash and recycling for the  New Year holiday. However, the Dubuque Metropolitan Landfill will be closed New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.

Other Scheduled closures include;

  • City of Dubuque offices will be closed on Friday, December 30th, and Monday, January 2nd, for the New Year holiday. This includes City Hall and other City offices and facilities.
  • The Jule Transit will not operate on Saturday, December 31st, and Monday, January 2nd, for the New Year holiday. Parking meter violations will not be enforced these days.
  • The Carnegie-Stout Public Library will be closed New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.

In addition, the city is still seeking volunteers for the DBQ Shovel Crew. If you're willing to give your time and energy you could be very helpful in the coming days to those less fortunate or unable to clear their driveway or sidewalks. Sign up at this website to apply for help, or to become a volunteer snow shoveler.
