When it comes to supporting local non-profits, there might not be an easier and more impactful program than Kwik Care.

If you're not aware, Kwik Care has helped raise both funds and awareness for local nonprofits. Each month, Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen help collect donations for a different organization. Donations can be made easily by requesting your total purchase at any of those businesses (including at the gas pumps at Kwik Stop) be rounded up to the nearest dollar. The additional cents used to round up will be donated to the respective charity of the month.

This month's Kwik Care recipient, the first of the year, is People in Need (PIN) in Dubuque. Founded in 1983, PIN provides monetary assistance to individuals and families in the Dubuque community who are facing emergency situations affecting their health and safety. Primarily, the organization is committed to helping folks avoid shutoffs from utilities (electric, gas, and water) and eviction from housing due to them being unable to pay rent.

PIN President Tom Stovall joined Heather Hamm from Kwik Stop/Rainbo Oil in studio to talk about all the wonderful things the organization does in the community. In helping individuals pay their rent or utilities, PIN will give the money directly to the companies seeking payment, effectively serving as a middleman for struggling individuals.

The assistance provided by PIN is directed to families and individuals who are temporarily facing emergency health and safety circumstances and with nowhere else to turn for help. PIN provides monetary assistance paid directly to vendors for needs such as rent to avoid eviction or for electric, gas, or water to avoid shutoffs. PIN also determines if a client might be eligible for programs or services provided by other helping agencies in the community and makes referrals on behalf of the client [....] the 319 assists provided by PIN in 2023 were completed in partnership with 22 other organizations that provided referrals and assistance - per PIN's 2023 annual report

People in Need doesn't have a website nor a Facebook page. Individuals seeking assistance may contact them via email (peopleinneed7995@gmail.com) or phone (563-581-7995). Take a listen to my interview with Heather Hamm and Tom Stovall of People in Need below!
