Dubuque’s Annual ‘Trunk or Treat’ Brings Hundreds Out for Candy and Fun
The annual Dubuque County Fairgrounds Trunk or Treat event is one I look forward to every year. The spirit of Halloween reaches a new level when this event goes down, and not even an untimely downpour could sour the moods of hundreds of kids and their parents who still took it upon themselves to enjoy an unseasonably warm late October getting candy and showing off their costumes.
Our radio crew at Y105 and 103.3 WJOD likes to show up and show out at the Trunk or Treat event. That's a large credit to Katie Kotz, an Account Executive at Townsquare Media, who made sure she supplied our trunks with ample candy, toys, and trinkets for the ghosts and goblins that came to the Dubuque County Fairgrounds. Ken Peiffer of 103.3 WJOD dressed as a jailbird and cracked jokes with many "trunkers!"
Meanwhile, I had the idea for Catherine and I to dress up as characters from the children's novel/TV series Harold and the Purple Crayon. I was Harold and Catherine was Porcupine. I helped her secure the spikes on her costume, and she made me a wonderful purple crayon out of clay. That was my way of reclaiming a childhood staple after it was maligned by an unfaithful movie adaptation earlier this year.
Enough of that, though. The stars of the annual Trunk or Treat are not only the businesses that show up with their vehicles decorated for spooky season, but the hundreds of "trunkers" who show up in costume. I saw several noteworthy ones, including Target shoppers, a couple little girls dressed as M3GAN, UPS delivery drivers, plenty of superheroes, and more!
Once again, hats off to the amazing staff at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds, who made everything from parking, organizing, and exiting very easy for all eventgoers. They are consistently up to the task in every way. For more photos of this year's Trunk or Treat event, keep scrolling!
