Wisconsin Named One Of 2025’s Most Independent States
Fourth of July is just about a week away! This summer is already flying by and it will be that other season before you know it. (I'm not going to talk about that, though.)
The Fourth is always a blast with hopefully nice, hot weather and fun with family and friends. Of course, you can't forget about fireworks.

Now, ahead of the July holiday, WalletHub has shared a list of the most and least independent states. They released the study on Tuesday (June 24th).
The list isn't about which states are the most patriotic or the least patriotic. Instead, the list is used to gauge how self-reliant each state is. Let's look at how Minnesota and Wisconsin fared.
What Makes A State Independent, According To WalletHub?
To make this list, analysts looked at financial dependency, like the median credit score in each state, median debt per income and more. They also took government dependency, job-market dependency and international-trade dependency into account.

Vice dependency also came into play here, with analysts looking at share of adult drug users, current adult smokers, adults with gambling disorders and more.
Wisconsin Named Among The Top 10 Most Independent States
Cue the music! Wisconsin is the ninth most independent state for 2025. Wisconsin has one of the highest median credit scores in the country, which helped boost it to the top of the list.

I would have never guessed Wisconsin would make the top ten because I don't know too much about the factors used in this study. Minnesota did not do quite as well this time around.
Minnesota Makes Top 15 For Most Independent States For 2025
While Minnesota didn't do as well as Wisconsin, they still did great, coming in at number thirteen this year. Minnesota has the highest median credit score in the country and one of the highest median household incomes.
Sadly, Minnesota also has the second-most adults with gambling disorders. If you're feeling really independent, you can check out Utah, Colorado and Virginia.
