ARREST MADE FOLLOWING  STABBING IN DUBUQUE

On January 16th, 2018, at 10:40 a.m., Dubuque Police responded to 911 Garfield Avenue, on the report of a man who had been stabbed.

As officers arrived on scene, they encountered a truck leaving the scene. Inside was the victim, identified as Lynn F. Schmitz, 52, of 600 National Street, Dubuque, who was suffering from stab wounds to his chest and back. Schmitz advised Michael S. Sheckles, 28, of 911 Garfield Avenue, was responsible for the stabbing. Schmitz was transported by private vehicle to Finley Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Sheckles was located in the area shortly after the incident and was taken into custody. He was charged with Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The former is an Aggravated Misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment up to 2 years and a fine between $625 & $6,250. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia is a Simple Misdemeanor punishable by up to thirty days in jail and a fine between $65 & $625. Sheckles remains incarcerated in the Dubuque County Jail pending his initial court appearance.
