Loras College Dance Marathon raised $216,061 for the Children’s Miracle Network and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital on April 29, a $15,000 increase over last year. The student-led event has raised more than $1.6 million for the hospital and the network.

More than 250 dancers, 150 miracle family members, and countless alumni and corporate sponsors took part in the daylong event. Miracle families shared experiences of having a child receive care at the Children’s Hospital each hour of the 12-hour marathon. Some of the hours were dedicated to “miracle angels,” children who lost their battle with illness.

Individual participants, through mini-marathons held at area schools, corporate donations, and several student-organized events, raised funds throughout the year. This year was special because alumni, families, and students came together to recognize Loras College Dance Marathon Advisor Kim Walsh who will be stepping down as advisor after 12 years.”

The marathon also helped fund the Beads of Bravery program. The remainder of donations is allocated to programs and services as directed by the Children’s Hospital leadership, including the Room of Magic, care packages, NICU Parent Group and CPR kits.
